Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB)-Take a Stand for America !

Posted July 11th, 2011 by Steve Petzold in Right to the Point

It is time to take a stand for freedom and choice in the United States.  I urge all patriotic Americans  to call Buck McKeon's Washington office at (202) 225-1956 Right Now and  demand that he support HR 2412.  The Better Use of Light Bulbs act (BULB) will allow for the continued manufacture, use and sale of incandescent light bulbs.

It is ridiculous that we need to take time from our busy days to engage in such lobbying, but this is a matter of extreme importance and substance.  CFLs contain Mercury and are very dangerous.  If you don't think so, crush one up and mail it to Jeff Wilson or  a politician .....please don't you may hurt yourself, but you get the point.  This issue illustrates the job killing nature of DC legislation since most American  light bulb plants are now closed.   CFLs are imported from China because the EPA would never allow their manufacture in this country.

Patriots, today is the day we help to turn this country around.  If you actually read and agree with this-leave a comment and let me know that you called Buck.  When I called at 5 AM this morning, I got the distinct impression that his aid thought I was a prankster.  Ask Buck why he did not co sponsor the legislation.

Freedom and liberty are stolen over time in little pieces.  Take some time today to grab some back.  Petz welcomes your thoughts and comments.  Let those statistics at SCVTALK.com  use those poisonous CFLs and expensive LEDs.

Well goll-leee, so much for your rudimentary explanantion Indy. Maybe Obama should just have his GE pals pay taxes. But the problem is deeper than that... liberal ideology has enabled too may to expect handouts, which is one major reason Obama is now known as the "food stamp" president.

Interestingly Bill, almost every American that owns a home, buys a car, or is funding their child’s college education does so on ‘BORROWING’. This has worked well since most American can’t save enough in their say for 20 years to own a home. Yet, through mortgages, we can give other Americans a place to save while permitting economic growth in the short run. So the concept of borrowing isn’t ‘foreign’ to most Americans. The problem we have with government today, on the hand, is that it’s used as a ‘gifting machine’ to give some Americans favors ahead of every American’s fiduciary duty to pay their fair share for the services they ‘demand and expect’ from government. Same goes for businesses. Is it reasonable that the largest corporation in the US paid no taxes at all last year? Yet, I don’t see any republican even discuss that. We need to bring ‘fiscal clarity’ to government taxing but it has to be done in a manner that not only deals with economic, business, and budgeting reality, but be consistent with the ‘demands’ of the public.

Isn't time for the W/H to stop spending more $$'s than they receive? Who operates their households as though there's a money tree in the back yard?

It would nice as well if the software allowed paragraphs.

What’s interesting is the fact that Bush 2 ‘DOUBLED’ the national debt from $5 trillion to $10 trillion. And yet, the republicans voted to extend the national debt ceiling right along . . . And the stimulus kept us out of a full blown depression. And now, Republicans in Congress want to repeal the recently passed protections against the same type of ‘wall street casino speculation’ that put us in our current mess. Isn’t it time we started dealing with reality versus just reciting ‘focus group tested’ talking points that have been shown not to be realistic? We need an ‘effective’ government, one not run by ideologues of either party. We’ve seen since Reagan that ‘market fundamentalism’ is a failed concept and promoting it only helps the top 2%, the only group that has seen any gains in income.

Here we go again, the sky is falling and we "need" the gov't to bail us out. So far that gimmick has failed miserably and it will never succeed, i.e., shovel ready jobs, obamacare, affordable housing, cash for clunkers, massive stimulus spending, etc. Get gov't out of the way so that our private sector will thrive.

It's important while discussing the issue of 'liberty and freedom' to put some context into why incandescent bulbs are so energy wasteful. First, the light output is there but the lost energy is seen and felt by the heat lost by this type of bulb. The newer LED replacements that are coming have the same light output but use much less energy. In any event, most Americans haven’t any good idea of the current use of energy in the US so here’s a quick recap of the actual fossil fuels numbers in play: - The US ‘peaked’ discoveries in the US in the 1930s - The US ‘peaked’ its own production in the US in 1970 at about 10 million barrels a day (mbd) - The US currently produces about 6 mbd - The US uses about 20 mbd - The US imports about 14 mbd from foreign sources - The US uses about 7 billion barrels “a year” at current consumption - The US has 21/31 (low/high) billion barrels of ‘proven reserves’ (economically recoverable with current technology) - The World ‘peaked’ discoveries in the 1960s (http://www.planetforlife.com/oilcrisis/oilsituation.html ) - The World currently produces/uses about 89 mdb at current consumption - The World currently produces/uses about 32 billion barrels of oil each year - The World has about 1/2 (low/high) trillion barrels of ‘proven reserves’ ( www.usgs.gov ) - The World oil production is expected to peak about now . . . So I’m not sure that most Americans know this and thus we need a informed intelligent government that can act in our interest based on reality and not a further discussion as to why government exist in the first place. I think the Founding Fathers knew that government is there to act in the interest of the public although I realize that some Americans always want to ‘go it alone’. That sadly, isn’t an economically efficient strategy as well discuss.

While it is hard to believe that anyone would actually believe that Petz would want you to mail a crushed CFL bulb to Jeff Wilson based on my original post let me say it explicitly. DO NOT MAIL OR DELIVER A CFL BULB TO JEFF WILSON OR ANY OTHER PERSON. DO NOT BUY THEM, TOUCH THEM, PLAY WITH THEM, OR USE THEM ! THEY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS TOXIC MATERIAL AND MAY CAUSE GREAT BODILY HARM.

And who was that high density lovin' liberal who was blasted in the back with chocolate while strolling outside his hood... why that would be Master Blogger Jeffrey Wilson! Ha!
  • Bill Reynolds
Hey Petz, I find it absolutely ironic and laughable that liberals driving around Valencia in their stinkin' little Prius would blast another high density lovin' liberal walking outside his hell hole in one OUR fine suburban/upscale neighborhoods with chocolate pudding! Now that is FUNNY!

Robert Johnson... absolutely a BRILLIANT point you have made about "Agenda 21"!!!

Steve, This is a great posting, but we have much bigger problems at home. Santa Clarita's involvement in this un-American "Agenda 21" group is threatening our sovereignty and way of life. Here is the URL that shows Santa Clarita's membership in the UN group that is charged with implementing so-called "sustainability" measures: http://url2it.com/fqgh I don't know about you, but I pledge allegiance to the stars and stripes, not some leftist shade of green! It's time the Tea Party storm City Hall and demand we exit this Commie-front group immediately! Watch for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEHWsdimVO4 Signed, Robert Johnson Valencia

Don't forget about the fact that through this legislation, we outsourced a lot of jobs to China (the LEDS are made there) and will lose a lot of jobs for the people who work with incandescent light bulbs.
  • ThePetChop
GE closed its American factory last year. Most bulbs and CFLs are made in Asia. So are you talking about job creation in China, or what? SEE http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/07/ge_looks_to_close_niles_glass.html SEE http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/apr/01/glass-plant-goes-dark/

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly... you may have missed Petz's entire message (see the last sentence): It is ridiculous that we need to take time from our busy days to engage in such lobbying, but this is a matter of extreme importance and substance. CFLs contain Mercury and are very dangerous. If you don't think so, crush one up and mail it to Jeff Wilson or a politician .....please don't you may hurt yourself, but you get the point.

To suggest that people send glass shards to Mr.Wilson or any politician is disgusting.

I have received a response from Rep. McKeon's office to my email and it is boilerplate-No New Taxes-Importance of Deficit Reduction-Create Jobs.....nothing about regulatory reform and nothing about the pending BULB legislation. It is time to find out who is with us, and who is against us.
  • Petz
The actual resolution is HR 6144 put forth by Rep. Barton of TX. Joe can correct if possible. My bad.
